On July 23 our husband, father, and grandfather Roy Reed McKinney went to his eternal rest. Roy was born in Leon on March 20, 1922 to the late Elias Laurence and Ader (Reed) McKinney. He graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1941 after which he began employment at Marietta Manufacturing. He served in the US Army from 1942-1945 with the 355th Engineers Company C where he made many lifetime friends. In 1946 he met and married Anita Evalee Thornton and they made their home in his family home in Leon, where he lived for 77 years. He was a lifetime member of the Leon United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and was a lay leader. He retired from Foote Mineral Company after 31 years of service. In his retirement he enjoyed many happy times meeting his friends at McDonald's. Roy's family would like to thank John Withers, Connolly Marshall and Willie O'Neil for their friendship and the joy they added to Roy's life. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Janet Renee and grandson, Roger Reed McKinney II; six sisters, Janet, Emma, Nancy, Annie, Lillie and Zena; three brothers, Herbert, Kermit and Early. Left to honor his memory are his wife of 61 years, Anita Evalee of Point Pleasant, his daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Kenneth Keefer of Leon, son and daughter-in-law, Roger Reed and Winona McKinney of Point Pleasant, daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Randy Frame of Point Pleasant; four grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew(Debbie) Keefer, Valerie (Jeff) Oldaker, Monica (David) Thomas, Nick (Kelli) McKinney; four great-grandchildren, Garrett and Abigail Keefer, Nicole Oldaker and Madelyn Thomas; special great-niece, Annette Dunnett. The celebration of Roy's life will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday July 27th, 2008 at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Runnion officiating. Burial will follow at the Leon Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be given by the West Virginia Military Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday the funeral home. Family members will serve as pallbearers. They are Kenneth Keefer, Randy Frame, Matthew Keefer, Nicholas McKinney, Jeff Oldaker, David Thomas. Honorary pallbearer, great-grandson Garrett Keefer. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Roy's memory to the Leon Grade School Scholarship Fund 134 Aylor Street, Leon, WV 25123.
