Richard Preston Thomas, 75, of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant. He was a retired crane operator with A.E.P. River Transportation Division, a U. S. Army veteran serving in the 82nd Airborne, had attended Bellemead United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant, and was a member of the United Steel Workers Local No. 14811. Richard was born November 11, 1934 in Charleston, WV, to the late George R. Thomas and Mildred Naomi (Hissom) Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles E. Thomas. Surviving are his wife, Reta (Jarvis) Thomas of Point Pleasant; a son, Richard Scott (Mary R.) Thomas of Letart; two daughters, Tracy Lynn (Jeff) Thomas of Columbus, OH, and Tonya Renee (Michael) Lanham of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Freda Lane of Cusseta, GA; two grandsons, Jason M. (Michelle) Thomas of Middletown, DE, and Troy Lanham of Charlotte, NC; two granddaughters, Megan N. Thomas and Morgan N. Thomas of Columbus; two step grandchildren, Dennie Shinn Jr. of Mt. Alto, and Robert Rickard Jr. of Columbus; and one great grandson, Gavin James Thomas born December 30, 2009. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010 at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Rev. Bobby Woods and Rev. James Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant with military graveside rites given by American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant.
