George Bruce Cunningham

George Bruce Cunningham, 74, of Point Pleasant, died at his home on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 He was born on October 20, 1937. He was the oldest child of the late George W. and Jane (Nitz) Cunningham. He served in the United States Army as a M.P. in Germany from 1957-1960. He was retired from Lakin State Hospital, where he worked for over 31 years. George volunteered many years with Camp Sunshine and Special Olympics. He was also an E.M.T. for Mt. Flower Rescue Squad in Leon for several years and was a member of the God's Will Tabernacle in Leon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Ray Cunningham and a sister, Eutha Mae Willet. George is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Janet Marie (Matheny) Cunningham of Point Pleasant; one daughter, Aleta M. (Hershel) Flora of Point Pleasant; one stepson, Larry J. (Debra) Kapp of Leon; two step-daughters, Melinda Richards of New Plymouth, OH and Joan Kapp of Point Pleasant; seven grandchildren, Diana (Allen) Little of Killgore, TX, Shawn (Nicole) Richards of Logan, OH, Jennifer Kapp of Leon, Valerie Kapp of Leon, Amanda Flora of Point Pleasant, Francessica Flora of Point Pleasant and Steven Flora of Ashton; two brothers, Clyde W. (JoAnn) Cunningham of Hartford and Dale W. (Delores) Cunningham of Point Pleasant. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, August 24, 2012, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Pastor Charles Birchfield and Pastor Larry J. Kapp officiating. Burial will follow in the Graham Cemetery in New Haven where military graveside rites will be given by the West Virginia Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #23 of Point Pleasant. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.wilcoxenfuneralhome.com.
