Dr. James “Jim” Wagner, 81, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, who retired to Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 14, 2024. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and family physician, Jim leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and love.


Born in Akron, Ohio and raised on a farm in Medina, Jim developed a strong work ethic and deep family values that shaped his life. During his high school career, he participated in ROTC and played the trombone in the band. After graduating high school, he attended The Ohio State University where he studied pharmacy and walked on to the university’s baseball team.


Jim worked as a pharmacist for several years before following his calling to become a physician. He attended medical school at Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine followed by a one-year residency in Montreal, Canada. He then settled in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where he dedicated 45 years to serving the community as a family practice physician at Point Clinic. He retired in January 2022 and relocated to Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, where he spent his retirement enjoying beach sunrises and sunsets with his beloved wife.


Jim was a devoted Christian, studying the Bible daily and loved sharing his faith with others. He was an active board member of Operation GO International, formerly known as David Wood Ministries, where he worked tirelessly to spread the Gospel.


He was preceded in death by mother, Gladys Meyers Wagner; father, Clarence Wagner; sister, Janice Harwood; grandson, Edison Pieczonka; nephew, Brian Wagner; and his cherished dog Lucy.


He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mona Wagner; three daughters, Maria Pieczonka, Dr. Brittany Wagner, Dr. Heather Andrews and her husband, Dr. Heath; three grandchildren, Eve, Evan, and Theodore; siblings Marge Styer, Jack Wagner and his wife Jo; along with nieces and nephews. His family and friends will remember him for his deep faith, love for people, dad jokes and passion for The Ohio State University football.


A visitation service will be held at New Hope Bible Baptist Church in Point Pleasant, West Virginia on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 2pm with a funeral service to follow at 3 pm. Graveside service will be for family only. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Operation GO International in honor of Dr. James Wagner’s dedication to his faith and his mission of sharing the Gospel.
