Zelma Jean Neal

Zelma Jean (Pullin) Neal, 82, beloved wife, daughter, sister, and aunt, was reunited with
her husband Sam following her passing on November 13, 2024, at Holzer Assisted
Living in Gallipolis, Ohio.


Jean was born on September 4, 1942, in Flatrock, W.Va. She is the daughter of the late
Delbert Owen and Janice Ruth (Baxter) Pullin. In addition to her parents, she is
preceded in death by her husband of (55) years, Samuel Frederick Neal, and brother
Ronald Ray Pullin.


She is survived by her brother Jeffrey Owen (Vickie) Pullin; sister-in-law Majorie Pullin;
a nephew, Jeffrey David Pullin; three nieces, Alysia (Timothy) Becker, Mallory (Brandan)
Smith and Rebecca (Joseph) Bocook and four great nephews and one great niece.


Jean was a 1960 graduate of Point Pleasant High School where she was active in both
the Concert and Marching Bands. She played trumpet during her junior high and high
school years and was a majorette during her senior year. She also graduated from the
Holzer School of Nursing in 1963. She worked as a registered nurse for 35 years and
worked at numerous hospitals including Holzer Medical Center, in Gallipolis. In 1971
Jean launched the region’s first hospital-based home health service at Holzer Medical
Center and served as director for 22 years. She later managed a home health agency
located in Fort Myers, Florida with 6 branches from Naples to Sarasota.


On January 22, 1966, Jean married Samuel Frederick Neal at Good Shepherd
Methodist Church in Flatrock, W.Va. Together they lived in West Virginia, Ohio, North
Carolina, and Florida. Jean loved to travel with Sam to international destinations like
Europe and China. Some of her travel opportunities included visiting all 50 states and
while at Grand Cayman Islands she traveled down 125 feet in a submarine to view sea
life near the ocean floor. She also loved to paint with oil; a craft she learned with her
mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Gallipolis, Ohio where she
enjoyed greeting others as they arrived for the Sunday morning services.


A private family graveside service and burial will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Pullin
Family Cemetery in Flatrock, W.Va, with Rev. Aaron Young of the First Baptist Church in Gallipolis, OH officiating.
