William "Bill" Mathew Hanshaw

William "Bill" Mathew Hanshaw, 77, of Point Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV.

He was born January 29, 1946, in Point Pleasant, a son of the late Dwyer "Pappy" Mathew Hanshaw and Agnes Lulu (Scarberry) Hanshaw.

Bill attended the First Church of God in Point Pleasant and the Fellowship of Faith in Rio Grande, OH.  He was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School Class of 1963, where he was a member of the Point Pleasant Big Blacks football team and was voted "Best Looking" of his senior class. He attended West Virginia State University where he studied physical therapy.  During his working career he was a deckhand on the river for Harry White and worked for multiple auto parts stores in Gallipolis and Point Pleasant, retiring in 2008 from Advance Auto Parts. He was a member of the Riverside Racers Reunion of Gallipolis, Ohio.  During his lifetime he enjoyed golfing, watching college football and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sharon Kay (Walker) Hanshaw; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances "Fran" LeeAnn and Matt Foreman of Boiling Springs, PA; a sister, Judy (Mike) Erwin of Florence, SC; sister-in-law, Nancy (David) Smith of Vine Grove, KY; nephews, Kevin Erwin of Florence, SC and Scott Erwin of Praia da Vitoria, Azores; a niece, Missy Erwin of Fort Mill, SC; and special friends, Omar Bradley, Mike Burnett, Steve Bragg and Keith Sayre.  A special mention of his late furry companion Deuce.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.  The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, to share memories and view personal mementos of his life.
