Viola Mayes, 93, of Gallipolis Ferry, passed away Monday, October 21, 2024, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington.
She was born August 18, 1931, in Omar, WV, a daughter of the late John Dalton and Nessel (Curry) Dalton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Robert Mayes; sister, Stella Alford; two infant sisters, Ellen and Eileen Dalton; brothers, Owen, Vernon, Alfred and Thomas Elmer Dalton; and son-in-law, Richard Dale Tolliver.
Viola was a retired cook from the VA Hospital and attended Balls Chapel Church. She was devoted to animals especially dachshunds.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Harold Robert Mayes of Gallipolis Ferry; three children, Rosetta Tolliver of Point Pleasant, Belinda Watterson of Gallipolis Ferry and Phil Mayes of Apple Grove; five grandchildren, Travis (Erin) Tolliver, Trenton Tolliver, James (Meighan) Watterson, Bryan Watterson and Noah Mayes; eight great-grandchildren, Bella Tolliver, Karson Tolliver, Alexa Tolliver, Lola Tolliver, Zaden Tolliver, Ian Watterson, Sophia Watterson and Marley Watterson; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Frankie Mayes of Bryan, OH and Ruby Lewis of Hurricane, WV; and was loved by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Bobby Ray and Wayne Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at the Apple Grove Memorial Gardens in Apple Grove. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service Monday at the funeral home.
