Vernon Cogar

Vernon Cogar, 95, of Point Pleasant, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant. He was born January 8, 1922, in Arnoldsburg, WV, a son of the late James Cogar and Icy Gay (Cottrill) Cogar. Vernon was a member of Eddy Chapel Church and the C.B. Club of Point Pleasant. During his working career he was employed by the Malleable Iron Company, Cottons Sawmill, Asplundh Tree Company, and was a farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl M. Cogar; two sons, William V. Cogar and James C. Cogar; three sisters, Velvet Cogar, Marie Cogar Rice and Judy Cogar Brewer; and two brothers, Burlin Cogar and Leman Cogar. Vernon is survived by one son and daughters-in-law, David L. and Bonnie Cogar of Point Pleasant, Karen Cogar of Gallipolis Ferry and Sherry Cogar of Letart; one brother, Calvin B. Cogar of Florida; and longtime friend, Oma Clutter. He is also survived by five grandchildren, William Michael (Ronna) Cogar, Terry Steven Cogar, Shelia (Timothy) Templeton, Dianna (Chris) Brown and Susan (Chris) Rimmey; and seven great-grandchildren, Nathan Cogar, Terry Cogar Jr., Michael Burris, Joshua James Templeton, Stephen Templeton, Andrew Brown and Michaela Rimmey. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Billy Zuspan officiating. Burial will follow at Eckard Cemetery in Point Pleasant. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday at the funeral home.
