Vanessa Dale Queen, 63, of Point Pleasant, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017, at home. She was born September 27, 1953, in Oak Hill, OH, a daughter of the late Lotner Brown and Frances (Saunders) Russell of Gallipolis, OH. Vanessa was a graduate of Southwestern High School Class of 1971. She was employed by the West Virginia Division of Corrections at the Lakin Correctional Center as a supervisor and had worked as a waitress at Millie's in Bradberry, OH. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Tom Mazey. She is survived by her husband, Virgil Ray Queen of Point Pleasant; mother and stepfather, Frances and Davey Joe Russell of Gallipolis, OH; a daughter, Julie Ann (Jerry) Boggs of Gallipolis Ferry; one son, Davey Ray Gardner of Glenwood; stepdaughter, Sherry (Dale) Ball of Gallipolis Ferry; six grandchildren, Kody Copley, Brooke Copley, Hannah Copley, Piper Boggs, Stone Boggs and Jesse Ball; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Mazey of Ocala, FL and Eileen (Jerry) Hill of Gallipolis; and two brothers, Tom Brown of Gallipolis and Joey Russell of Gallipolis. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Jane Ann Miller and Chaplain Mark Morrow officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Wednesday at the funeral home. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Alsharedi and staff of Pleasant Valley Hospital for the care and concern given to Vanessa during her illness.
