Lt. Col. Ret. Stanford F. Powell, 78, of Point Pleasant, entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Pleasant Valley Hospital on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 with his loving wife Pat at his side. Stan was born July 13, 1933 in New Haven, WV to the late Stanford Orson Powell and Lora Mae (Hesson) Powell. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Army with 25 years of active duty and 16 years, 11 months of service with the West Virginia Army National Guard Reserves. He attended the General Staff College for five years and had a Presidential appointment. Stan attended Heights United Methodist Church, he loved the church family and loved attending church and singing praises to his Lord. He will be missed by his wife and those who loved him and enjoyed his wonderful smile and personality. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father, Paul Reynolds; first wife, Patricia Ann (Schroeder) Powell who was the mother of his children; maternal grandparents, Okey Ellis Hesson and Lora Esther (Roush) Hesson. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Pat Powell of Point Pleasant; two daughters, Sandy (AL) Allen and Debra Stinson; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2012 at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Rev. Charlene Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Suncrest Cemetery in Point Pleasant where Military graveside rites will be given by the West Virginia Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant.
