Ruth A. Hughes, 91, of Parkersburg, WV, formerly of Point Pleasant, went home to be with her Lord Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Parkersburg Care Center.
She was born January 14, 1933, in Beech Hill, WV, a daughter of the late Gordon Hughes and Dicie (Hall) Hughes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Edsel Gordon Hughes and Furman J. Hughes; sisters, Inez Roberta Denney, Enna Estaline Newman, Leva Marie Hughes, Beulah Masel Hughes Clark, Reba Gaynell Hughes and Opal Virginia Hughes; nieces, Ann Rawson and Carol Sue Young; nephew, Ralph Newman; a great nephew, Joey Rawson; and others.
Ruth has all of her life tried to do everything she could to be a comfort and joy to everyone she knew. She was very generous to everyone who she knew and loved, one of the very best cooks who could make the best chili, homemade pizzas, cookies and etc.
She loved to be around children. Growing up she would fix me special Easter baskets and of course she did the same for many other children of relatives and friends who would visit the home place where she lived most of her life with her parents and sisters Reba and Opal Hughes. They all were very good cooks and delighted to be around and help children in their lives.
Until recently, that was her life but for the past few years she was living at Parkersburg Care Center. Everyone in the place got to know her and having understanding after a while she missed the cooking and all the things she use to do. And I believe by the grace and love of God Jesus Christ came to take her to her new heavenly home where she no doubt is joined by so many of those gone on before.
Ruth is survived by nieces and nephew, Minnie L. (Robert) Mayhugh, Pam (George) Marchinko, and Lynn Hall, Rosemary (Raymond) Lewis and Owen David Denny; niece-in-law, Dixie Newman; nephew-in-law, George Rawson; great nieces and great nephews; and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Beech Hill Cemetery in Southside, WV. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
