Ruth Irene Cassell

Ruth I. Cassell, 94, of Gallipolis Ferry, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Pleasant Valley Healthcare Center in Point Pleasant.

She was born June 30, 1929, in Southside, WV, a daughter of the late Reuben Wilson Hayes and Sarah Ellen (Litchfield) Hayes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, June Homer Cassell; sisters, Golda Welker, Naomi Relyea, Mary Lou Weethee, Dorothy Barnett and Minnie Burris; and brothers, Gilbert, Gomer, Warren, Charles and Clyde Hayes.

Ruth was a member of Pleasant View Church in Gallipolis Ferry and a homemaker.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sue Cassell of Southside; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Rick Nichols of Sullivan, IN; grandchildren, Rachael (Andrew) Bordenet, Karen (Brian) Wamsley, Ben (Kyla) Nichols and Matthew (Tomi) Cassell; eight great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Lynne Fetty

The family would like to give a special thank you to Pleasant Valley Healthcare Center and Hospice of Huntington for the care given to their mother.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Ted Nance officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
