Rufus Hanley Blake, 85, of Gallipolis Ferry, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV, after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of 66 years to Caroll Sue Clark Blake.
He was born May 24, 1938, in Huntington, a son of the late Rufus and Opal M. Edmonds Blake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy David Legg; and a great-grandson, Spencer Jay Legg.
Hanley retired from Pechiney Aluminum after 38 years of service. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Local 5668 and had served in the Army Reserves.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Caroll Blake; a son, Dallas and Delores Blake; daughters, Deborah and Mike Legg and Deidre Blake all of Gallipolis Ferry; grandchildren, Chris and Donna Legg, Natasha and Chad Roush, Robert (Dena) Richmond, Cameron (Emily) Richmond, Kasie and Phil Tucker, and Don Jr. and Carrie Siders; great-grandchildren, Zach (Jill) Roush, Jake Roush, Allison Legg, Ashley Legg, Trey Richmond, Alex Richmond, Paisley Mitchell, Bentley Mitchell, Bailey Mitchell, Caspyn Tucker, Charlotte Richmond, Madlyn Shamblin, Cody Siders and Blake Siders. He is also survived by a sister, Janice Spurlock of Huntington; and one brother, Marlin and Cathy Blake of Tucson, AZ.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Ronnie Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in the Apple Grove Memorial Gardens in Apple Grove. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
