Ronald S. Payne

Ronald S. Payne, 81, of Apple Grove WV, passed away Monday January 16 ^th , 2023, at home.

He was born September 29th, 1941, in Columbus Ohio, to the late Dennis Payne and Sibyl (Hudson) Payne Martin.  He was raised in Glenwood WV by his grandparents, Harvey S. Hudson and Maudie F. (Mayes) Hudson.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his older brother Gary D. Payne and sister-in-law Judy C. Payne and his younger brother Jackie R. Payne.

Ronnie was a graduate of the Hannan High School Class of 1961 where he played football for Coach Roy Ross.  After high school he joined the US Army Special Forces where he became one of the elite soldiers known as the Green Beret.  After leaving the military he worked at and retired from the Goodyear and M & G Polymers Plant in Apple Grove WV.  After retirement, Ronnie loved to farm.  He liked his animals and enjoyed taking care of them.  He always had to be busy and most any day you could find him out on the tractor doing something.  There was hardly a day that passed by that he was not wearing some type of clothing that had Ohio State Buckeyes on it.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon M. (Barnett) Payne of Apple Grove:  sons and daughter in-laws, Stacey and Marcia Payne of Hinton WV and Carry and Rachel Payne of Apple Grove WV; grandchildren, Hanna and Moriah Payne of Hinton, Tabitha Payne of Barboursville, Carry (C.J.) Payne and wife Taryn of Ashton and Shyann Payne of Apple Grove; great grandchildren, Lacey Payne, Emma Payne, Madeline Payne and Paisley Wilson.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant WV, with Pastor Ted Nance officiating.  Burial will follow at the Moore's Chapel Cemetery in Ashton WV.   The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Wednesday at the funeral home.
