Roger Lee Mayes

Roger Lee Mayes, 75, of Gallipolis, OH, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV.

He was born February 5, 1948, in Henderson, WV, a son of the late Edmund Mayes and Frances Estaline Mayes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Eugene Mayes; and sisters, Helen Maxine Bonecutter, Ruth Elizabeth Simpkins and Phyllis Ann Ferguson.

Roger was retired from the Gallia County Local Schools in Gallipolis.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Lynn (Berkley) Mayes of Gallipolis; a daughter, Teresa L. Nance and husband Keith of Cheshire, OH; two sons, Donald E. Mayes and wife Michelle of Bidwell, OH and Gregory A. Mayes and wife Sandra of Addison, OH; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, William E. "Sonny" Mayes and wife Pansy of Gallipolis Ferry.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Junior Preston officiating.  Burial will follow at the Henderson Cemetery in Henderson, WV.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday at the funeral home.
