Robert D. "Bobby" Tillis Jr.

Robert D. "Bobby" Tillis Jr., 65, of Point Pleasant passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born August 13, 1949, in Point Pleasant, a son of the late Robert D. "Bob" Tillis Sr. and Vivian Knapp Tillis of Point Pleasant. Bobby was a 1967 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and retired from AEP after 39 years of service with his last position being in the purchasing department of the AEP River Division. In his early years he was an avid bowler playing on several league teams. In recent years he enjoyed following his nieces and nephews by attending their various sporting events. Bobby was a longtime member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Point Pleasant Lodge No. 731. During his 43 years of membership he served several terms as Governor as well as on many district, state and national committees. Bobby received the highest Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 1999. Longtime chairman of the Lodge community service committee, Bobby was dedicated to our community. A Past Commander of Sons of the American Legion Squadron No. 23, Bobby served as West Virginia State Commander as well as National Executive Committeeman representing West Virginia at the national level. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, George and Helen Tillis and Denver Knapp and Clarice Knapp Foglesong. Surviving are his wife, Georgianna Sommer Tillis; mother, Vivian Knapp Tillis; a brother, William D. "Bill" Tillis of Point Pleasant; one aunt, Katherine Meadows of Point Pleasant; and cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Rev. Joe Nott officiating. Burial will follow at Suncrest Cemetery in Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. A Pilgrim Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moose Charities WV House at Mooseheart, 155 International Drive, Mooseheart, Illinois 60539.
