Richard E. Hern, 84, of Point Pleasant, passed away August 2, 2017, after a short illness. He was a man who fiercely loved his family and friends. He was born May 2, 1933, in Kayford, WV. He was the son of the late Vernie Hern and Bessie Marie (Poynter) Hern and was the youngest of 14 children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several sisters and brothers. Rich was a veteran and served his country in the United States Army. He became a Christian in 2010 and was a faithful deacon of Fisherman's Net Ministries. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum with 35 years of service. He then spent many enjoyable years working with the J2Y35 Water Association. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Nancy (Holbrook) Hern of Point Pleasant; his children, daughter Rita and Randy Hardy of Wichita, KS and grandchildren Kate (Mark) Kinman and David (Katie) Hardy, with great grandchildren Nora and Eli Kinman and Roosevelt Hardy; daughter Marlene and Rick Kinnaird of Columbia, SC and grandchildren Erica (Kevin) McDowell and Ashley (Rob) Krasovic, with great grandchildren Maddie McDowell and Parker and Lyla Krasovic; son Douglas and Sonya Hern of League City, TX and grandchildren Andrea and Jacob Hern. He is survived by one sister, Erma Stanley, sisters-in-law, Opal Hern, Wilma Hern and Doma Hern and many caring extended family that includes many nieces and nephews, the entire Holbrook clan and his loving church family. A celebration of Rich's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with beloved Pastor Annetta Durst officiating. Burial will follow at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens in Glasgow, WV, where military graveside rites will be given by the West Virginia Army Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
