Richard Thomas Bateman, 86, of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, passed away at home Saturday, December 22, 2018, with his sons and caregiver at his side. He was born March 18, 1932, to William T. and Charlotte Bateman. Retired from Ohio River Company, Richard had a passion for gardening and being outdoors. His family will greatly miss his contagious laughter, but takes genuine comfort in knowing he is with his Lord and Savior. In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by three sisters, Hilda Henry, Nancy Wickline and Dolly Bateman. Richard is survived by two sons, Steve (Diana) Bateman and Tom (Cosma) Bateman; three granddaughters, Pamela (Joe) Stewart, Kristin (Seth) Rhodes and Elizabeth Bateman; five great-grandchildren, Ava, Ella and Layne Stewart and Solomon and Isaiah Rhodes; mother of his sons, Violet Lee Martin Bateman; a brother, Bill (Janie) Bateman; and a sister, Annabelle Stephens. The family would like to give a special thank you to Phyllis Martin for the exceptional care given. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Speaker Ronnie Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow at Beale Chapel Cemetery in Apple Grove. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Wednesday at the funeral home.
