Raymond Gerald Musgrave

Raymond Gerald Musgrave, 85, of Point Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Pleasant Valley Hospital. He was born August 8, 1935, in Mullins, WV, a son of the late Raymond Fredrick Musgrave and Bessie Bradford (Barnett) Musgrave. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Andrya Jordan. Raymond was a graduate of PPHS where he participated in sports and was president of his class, then he went on to graduate from Morris Harvey College and WVU Law School. After graduating law school he returned to Point Pleasant and joined the law firm with his father that his grandfather started in 1901. He practiced law for over 50 years and was recognized for his service by the Mason County Bar Association and West Virginia State Bar Association. During his 50 years of practice he served as city attorney for both Point Pleasant and Henderson and also served as an attorney for the West Virginia Legislature. He was admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States of Appeals. Raymond was nationally recognized as a trial attorney and was a Proctor in Admiralty. He tried many cases in county, state and federal courts. He was involved in local and state politics. Raymond was a student of history with his interest lying in the revolutionary war era, for which he wrote a manuscript of the Battle of Point Pleasant. He was elected past President of the local, state chapters of Sons of the American Revolution and was elected as National President General. His duties as President General required him to travel to and serve all of the chapters across the United States. Through all, Raymond was always proud of his roots and all those he represented as a small town attorney. He is survived by his wife, Twilia Ahreta (Kerr) Musgrave of Point Pleasant; three sons, Matthew (Lisa) Musgrave of Point Pleasant, Rick (Judy) Jordan of Gallipolis Ferry, and Andy (Angie) Jordan of Point Pleasant; seven grandchildren, Leigh Musgrave, Ian Musgrave, Wendie (Justin) Sheline, Cassie Jordan, Nick (April) Duncan, Ashley (Jordan) McCarty, and Dustin (Brandy) Spencer; and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, John C. (Becky) Musgrave of Point Pleasant; a niece, Jenny Wamsley; and a nephew, John Musgrave, Jr. A graveside service and burial will be 3 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant with Pastor Justin Moran officiating. Social distancing will be observed and face masks are required. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Point Pleasant River Museum, P.O. Box 412, Point Pleasant, WV, 25550.
