Melvin O. "Jiggs" Johnson, 91, of Point Pleasant, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Point Pleasant. He was born February 10, 1924, in Point Pleasant, a son of the late Wesley Isaac Johnson and Ida Catherine (Holden) Johnson. Melvin was owner of Johnson Fire Extinguisher Sales and Service. He was a former chief and member of the Point Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department and attended Church of Christ in Christian Union of Point Pleasant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Guyla L. (Roush) Johnson; three sisters; and three brothers. He is survived by two sons, Melvin R. (Bobby Jo) Johnson of Point Pleasant and Roger L. (Margie) Johnson of Norfolk, VA; one daughter, Cathy L. (Rev. Thomas) Starkey of Moyock, NC; eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Mike) Boso, Shelly L. (Darren) Watson, Misty (Jason) Rollins, Jennifer (John) Harkins, Elizabeth (Bryan) Housand, Michael Johnson, T.J. (Christen) Starkey, and Marli R. Johnson; 24 great- grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Rev. Thomas Starkey officiating. Burial will follow at New Lone Oak Cemetery in Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
