Melissa Dawn Akers

Melissa Dawn Akers, 50, of Point Pleasant, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at her home. She was born July 8, 1965, in Ripley, WV, a daughter of the late Kenneth Lloyd Friend and Opal Marie (Miller) Friend. Melissa was a graduate of Wahama High School Class of 1983 and a nursing assistant and nursing secretary at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Point Pleasant. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed making crafts and working with flowers, but most of all enjoyed getting her family together. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Lloyd Akers. Melissa is survived by three sons, Nathan Akers of Point Pleasant, Joshua Akers of Smithers, WV and Bobby Akers of Point Pleasant; five grandchildren, Natalie Akers, Kylee Akers, Jada Akers, Gavin Akers and Bella Akers. She is also survived by one brother, Kenneth R. Friend; and six sisters, Juanita Friend, Nora Orndorff, Kathy Friend, Carol Pierce, Donna Surface and Stacy Freeman. A graveside service and burial will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2016, at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant, with Minister Cathy Searls officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. till 12:30 p.m., Friday at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
