Marshall Slayton, 84, of Point Pleasant, died Monday, August 17, 2015, at Holzer Assisted Living, Gallipolis, OH. He was born June 10, 1931, in Point Pleasant, a son of the late Carl Slayton and Ester (Agner) Slayton. Marshall was a member of Krebs Chapel Church in Point Pleasant. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, retired as a boilermaker on construction and was a member of American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert F. Slayton and one sister, Wanda Lou Slayton. He is survived by his wife, Iva F. (Hussell) Slayton of Point Pleasant; one brother, Vernon Slayton of Winston Salem, NC; five sisters, Margie White of Point Pleasant, Emma Jean Osborne of Crown Point, IN, Geraldine Zickafoose of Montgomery, WV, Eileen Mullins of Anstead, WV, and Anna Mae Duncan of Cannelton, WV; one half sister, Irene Durst of Leon, WV; a sister-in-law, Olive Cottrill of Point Pleasant; and multiple nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2015, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Pastor Mike Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at Suncrest Cemetery in Point Pleasant with military graveside rites given by the West Virginia Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant.
