Linda D. Burris, 76, of Point Pleasant, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the Hospice Solace Center in Asheville, NC.

She was born June 14, 1947, in Kaylong, Mason County, WV, a daughter of Sidney Paul Fitzgerald and Lillian M. (VanMatre) Fitzgerald.

Mom loved her family, gardening, bird watching and loved all animals-especially her cats and dogs; she had goats, donkeys and chickens as well as a rescued cat.  Mom was fiercely loyal, if she made a commitment to you that was it.  Her commitment was deep, profound and lifelong.  She was completely dedicated to the people she cared for.

She maintained a lifelong friendship with childhood friends, Harvietta Gribble and Glenndy Sue Fradd.  Eddie Lewis who was a neighborhood boy (friend of Lana's) and mom had a special relationship.  He sent her cards of encouragement during her illness and regularly until her passing.  He considered her his "other mother".

On December 25, 1964, Linda married John V. Burris II and together they shared 59 years. During this time, she worked by Johnny's side in the sporting goods store they owned until their retirement.  She loved the business and was very knowledgeable about firearms which knowledge she received from her own father.

Linda is survived by her husband, John; daughter and son-in-law, Lana Burris Nix and Chuck DeHart; grandchildren, Brayden Burris and Jacob (Stephanie) Nix; and two great grandchildren, Sydney Renee Nix and Chance Wayne Edward Nix.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Jonathan Pinson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant.
