Lester Raymond Dowell, 73, of Henderson died Friday, January 18, 2008 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Raymond was retired from the U. S. Corp of Engineers with over 25 years service, was a member of the American Legion Post #23 of Point Pleasant, served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church Choir in the late 40's and early 50's. He was born November 7, 1934 in Southside, WV to the late Clyde and Thelma (Fowler) Dowell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Dowell, Russell Dowell, and Chester Dowell; and one sister Margaret Lanier. Surviving are his brother and sisters-in-law, Clyde Dowell, Jr. and Dorothy A. Dowell of Columbus, Ohio; and Mary Dowell of Henderson, WV; a niece Belinda (James) Wymer of Scott Depot, WV; a nephew, Russell Eugene (Yvonne) Lanier of Mechanicsburg, PA; and several great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; and companion, Bonnie Wears of Kanauga, Ohio. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2008 at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Bonecutter officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord Cemetery in Henderson. Visitation will be Saturday, from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
