Lawrence Paul "Larry" Martin, 62, of Apple Grove went to be with the Lord, Monday, July 14, 2008 at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, WV surrounded by his family. He was born March 2, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Raymond and Lois (Wills) Martin. Larry was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Wilkinsburg, PA and attended Beale Chapel United Methodist Church with his family. He graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1964 and held a Masters Degree in Education from Marshall University. His lifelong Mason County career in education began in 1970 at Sunnyside Elementary as a teacher. In 1974, he became the Vice Principal at Point Pleasant High School where he served for 30 years, at that time he retired for one year, but later returned to serve as Vice Principal at Point Pleasant Middle School from 2005-2008. He was a devoted husband to Janie (Nibert) Martin of Apple Grove; and loving father of daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Scott Henderson of Apple Grove; and son, Jason Martin of Apple Grove; and grandchildren, Brandon and Allison Henderson. Additional survivors are his brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Diane Martin of Pittsburgh; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dale and Nancy Nibert of Apple Grove; sister-in-law, Becky and George Woodward of Point Pleasant; brother-in-law, David and Harriett Nibert of Point Pleasant; nieces and nephews, Kathy and Bob Zbikowski, and Carrie and Tony Barilla of Pittsburgh; Matthew Kayser, Rachel Felker, and Jeremy Rizer of Point Pleasant; and Amy and Stewart Wenerstrom of Plains City, Ohio; and several great nieces and nephews. Larry enjoyed attending football games and playing golf with his friends. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Rev. Mike Hall and Pastor Justin Berry officiating. Burial will follow in the Beale Chapel Cemetery in Apple Grove. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
