June Clyde Adkins, 94, of Pliny, West Virginia peacefully passed into the Lord's loving arms on April 8, 2008 He was born January 21, 1914 at Harts in Lincoln County to the late Samuel Henry and Martha Jane (Frye) Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Bertha Dempsey Adkins; his son, Gary Dale Adkins; brothers, Enos and Everett Dial and sisters, Lola (Bruce) McCann, Essie (Mason) McCann, and Nola (Grover Gartin/Ira Tomblin). June C. was a faithful Christian man devoted to God, family, and his fellowman. He was a founding member and former deacon of the Chapman Memorial Freewill Baptist Church in Harts, WV where he lived most of his life. He was a member of the Aracoma Masonic Lodge #99 in Logan. After relocating to Mason County during his retirement years, he enjoyed attending Mt. Union United Methodist Church and Ashton Baptist Church. He was a lifelong educator, as a teacher, principal, mentor, and basketball coach. He was the founder of the boys and girls basketball programs in the Harts area. He also helped to establish the first 4-H club in the Harts area. He loved helping people and especially the youth. His favorite hobby was beekeeping. He worked with bees and made honey for almost 70 years, also helping several friends start their own beehives. In addition, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, playing Rook, dominoes, and always having a favorite dog by his side. He was unique and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tom Nunnery of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Rick and Jennifer Dotson of Barboursville, Misty Wingenbach of Bryan, TX, Jill Dotson of Point Pleasant, and Alex and Sonya Nunnery of Culloden; 10 great-grandchildren, Josh Steele, Ryan, Noah, Ethan, and Gavin Dotson, Jessica and Sydney Wingenbach, Evan Dotson, Destiny Montgomery, and Kyle Nunnery; a sister-in-law, Ona Mae Woodward of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Chapman Memorial Freewill Baptist Church in Harts, WV with Rev. Kit Meade officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins Family Cemetery in Harts, where Masonic graveside rites will be given by the Aracoma Lodge #99 of Logan. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, WV and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
