Joyce Marie (Wood) McCain, 84, of Gallipolis Ferry, left this life to a better and new life, Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Pleasant Valley Hospital. She was born March 17, 1932, in Huntington, WV, a daughter of the late Nathan Raleigh Wood and Erma Vee (Harbour) Wood. Joyce retired from the Cabell-Huntington Health Department in 1994, after 26 years of service as secretary in environmental health and from Elder Beerman Department Store in 2007, after 18 years service as an associate and part time cashier. She was a member of Pleasant View Church in Gallipolis Ferry. She graduated from Point Pleasant High School Class of 1950. She was a member of VFW Post 9738 Auxiliary, WVA Public Health Association (life member), Professional Clerical Section of the WVPHA (life member) and held several positions with the WVPHA and with the Professional Clerical Section of the WVPHA and also served two terms as president of the Clerical Section. She received the Meritorious Award from the WVPHA, the Professional Clerical Award and the Most Outstanding Clerk Award from the Sanitarian Section of the WVPHA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her husband, John J. McCain; two sisters, Erma Joann Wood and Kay Wolfe; seven beloved aunts; and one uncle who she is now reminiscing with. She is survived by a sister, Sue (Lowell) Allen of Gallipolis, OH; one brother-in-law, George Wolfe of Racine, OH; one aunt, JoAnn Harbour of Melbourne, FL; step children, Joseph Michael McCain (whom she raised) and wife Lisa of Huntington, Gregory Allen McCain of Catlettsburg, KY, John David McCain and wife April of Calhoun, GA, Jeffery Thomas McCain and wife Jenny of Proctorville, OH, and Teresa Lynn McCain of Martin, TN. Also surviving are step grandchildren, Mason Cain Dailey, Erica Dawn Mayer, Kristina Denise Griffen, Cassandra (Cassie) McCain, Margaret Patricia (Maggie) McCain, Ella Claire (Ellie) McCain, one great grandson, Jameson; nieces, Michelle Renee (Joseph) Henry of Gallipolis Ferry, Laura (Stephen) Bobbins of Rockport, Pam (David) Caldwell of Gallipolis; nephews, Jack (Donna) Wolfe of Wisconsin, Tony Wolfe of Racine, Bo (Julie) Allen of Gallipolis; great nieces, Taylor Allen, Ryleigh, MaKenna, and Jaryn Caldwell, Beth (David) Cobb, Krista Wolfe; great nephews, Tanner and Trevin Allen, Justin Wolfe, Nathan, Ryan, and Jason Wolfe, Josh (Mary Ann) Carmichael; great-great nieces, Evey and Kassidy Cobb; one great-great nephew, Colton Carmichael. She is also survived by a foster son, William (Bill) Bennett of Ohio; a dear friend (adopted daughter) Angela Miller and her daughter, Chelsea Rae and sons, Adrain and Gage of Ohio; and her wonderful church family and many friends. "The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want." A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Ted Nance officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Valley Memory Gardens in Huntington, WV. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
