Joseph Leonard Smith

Joseph Leonard Smith, 98, of Leon, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 25, 2021, at the home of his son, Larry Smith of Point Pleasant. He was born September 21, 1922, in the Kanawha County Coal Fields to William Sylvester and Olie Bell Jones Smith and came to Mason County as a very young child to be raised by his grandparents, Joseph and Dolly Wolfinbarger of Leon. Leonard served in the United States Navy in the 1940's and was married to Reba (Shinn) Smith of Leon. He worked for and retired from the Mason County Board of Education as a mechanic and bus driver. He was a member of the Leon Baptist Church where he served as deacon and choir director for many years. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his wife Reba. He is survived by two children, Joseph Larry (Cindy) Smith and Brenda (Dennis) Weaver both of Point Pleasant; four grandsons, Dennie Weaver of Point Pleasant, Timothy Weaver of Peyton, CO, Mark Smith of Huntington and Greg Smith of Point Pleasant; four great-grandchildren, Elijah Smith of Huntington, Erin and Ethan Weaver of Gallipolis Ferry and Emma Weaver of Peyton, CO. Wilcoxen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and interment will be at the Leon Cemetery.
