Joseph Walter Rayburn, 88, of Point Pleasant, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV. He was born August 16, 1930, in Point Pleasant, a son of the late Dana G. Rayburn and Edith (Barnette) Rayburn. Joe served his country in the United States Navy and Air Force. He retired with 22 years service as a senior electronic engineer from Arinc Research Corporation of Annapolis, Maryland, and was a member of Guernsey Masonic Lodge No. 66 F. & A.M. of Cambridge, OH and American Legion Post 23 of Point Pleasant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ricki Groff; two sisters, Barbara Neal and Patricia Chasko; and three brothers, Lewis Rayburn, Leslie Rayburn and Dana Rayburn. He is survived by his wife, Helen L. (Edwards) Rayburn of Point Pleasant; daughters, Kathi (Dave) Sporer of Chelsea, MI, Debbie Rayburn of Raleigh, NC, Cindy (Kevin) Kennedy of Dunkirk, MD and Cherie Rayburn of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Velma (Glenn) Pearson of Lancaster, OH; brothers, Lawrence Rayburn of Point Pleasant, Paul Rayburn of Point Pleasant and Thomas Rayburn of Charleston; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home with Pastor Chip Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Suncrest Cemetery in Point Pleasant. Military graveside honors will be given by the United States Navy Honor Guard and Stewart-Johnson VFW Post 9926 of Mason.
