John W. Whittington, 83, of Southside, WV, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at home. He was born September 5, 1927 in Charleston, WV, a son of the late John Edward Whittington and Fannie Mae (McCallister) Whittington. John was retired from Rockwell International as a machine operator with 30 years service. He also was a member of Hambrick Church, U.A.W. Local No. 1037, Police Auxiliary of Thornville, Ohio, and the West Virginia National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Virginia Whittington; one daughter, Peggy Belt; two grandsons, Charles Ellis and Keith Allen Whittington; a granddaughter, Cassandra Whittington; three sisters, Alice Jeffers, Louise Boggs, and Alama Rowley; one infant brother, John Whittington; and a step brother, Ray Collins. John is survived by his children, Lorretta (Hanley) Jeffers of Southside, WV, Paul (Sandi) Ellis of Chloe, WV, Eddie (Bonnie) Whittington of Thornville, Ohio, Jenny (Kenny) Lybarger of Southside, WV, Mike Whittington of Thornville, Ohio and Terry Whittington of Thornville, Ohio; 37 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Pastor Michele Keesling officiating. Burial will follow in the Jeffers Cemetery at Southside, WV. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
