John Lewis Steele III, 69, of Washington Court House, OH, passed from this world into his heavenly reward Monday, November 7, 2016, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, in Columbus, OH, after a sudden illness. He passed away surrounded by his family, listening to his favorite hymns, gospel, and bluegrass music. He was born February 7, 1947, in Columbus, OH, the son of the late John L. Steele Jr., Rella Beatrice (Powers) Steele and Charlene (Bryan) Steele. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Lewis and Essie Steele of Glenwood and Henry and Nannie (Conrad) Powers of Huntington. John was a longtime member of the Church of Christ at Route 38, where he served in numerous roles in furthering the work of God's kingdom. Outside of his relationship with God, he most treasured his family, especially his grandchildren, fishing, reading and more recently adopting every squirrel within a six-block radius into his backyard. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Sue (Scarberry) Steele; sons and daughters-in-law, John Lewis IV "J.L." and Lisa Steele of Sevierville, TN, William Donald and Heather Steele of Smyrma, TN and Edward Lee Steele and fiancée Anita McKenzie of West Jefferson, OH; and daughter, Pricilla Allison Steele of Nashville, TN. A devoted husband, father, and grandfataher, "Pap" leaves behind seven grandchildren, Austin Steele, Jessie Steele, Morgan Steele, Destiny Steele, Molly Steele, Marianne Steele, and Ryan Baker. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Mike Ball; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Melissa Steele; an aunt, Dortha (Steele) Fellure; an uncle, Robert Powers; and several nieces, nephews and counsins; and special friends Gene and Sheila Whaley. A visitation and fellowship will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 1550 State Route 38 NE, in Washington Court House, OH. Friends are invited to join the family Thursday, November 10, 2016, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. for visitation at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at the funeral home and burial will follow at Greenbottom Memorial Park in Lesage, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Church of Christ in Washington Court House, Church of Christ in Glenwood, WV, or the Fayette County Special Olympics.
