John William Nibert Sr.

John William Nibert Sr. (PaPaw), 94, of Point Pleasant, born September 10, 1921, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. John was the son of the late Dewey and Bessie (Burris) Nibert of Gallipolis Ferry. He graduated from Point Pleasant High School Class of 1940 and played an active role in the Alumni Association. John retired from AEP River Division, Lakin, WV and served our country as a member in the United States Army. Those of you who had the pleasure of knowing John knew that he loved life. He was a life time member in the following organizations: Charleston Scottish Rite, Gallipolis Shrine Club where he had served as Governor, Point Pleasant Masonic Lodge 19, Gallipolis Elks 107, Point Pleasant American Legion Post 23, associate member of Mason VFW 9926 and the Gallipolis VFW 4644. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters, Darlene K. Wedge and Loretta (Mikki) Lynn Reardon; mother of his children, Betty Lou (Sauer) Nibert; brothers, Max and George (Doc) Nibert; and sister, Lois Pyles. John is survived by a daughter, Karen S. Martin of Point Pleasant; son, Johnny Bill (Marcia) Nibert of Gallipolis Ferry; sister, Dolores (Warren) Anderson of Tallahassee, Florida; grandchildren, Jeff (Terri), Angie (Todd), Dee Dee (Joey), Matthew (Christina), Jim (Jill), Susan (Donnie), Staci (John), Brian (Lori), Dee Ann, Amber (Jake) and Amy; great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Heather, Justin, Kayla, Megan, Kaitlyn, Katie B, Brenden, Sophie, Sammie, Lincoln, Ashland, Mia, Braylan and MacKenzie; and great-great-grandchildren, Keagan, Brody, Brie and Liam. A celebration of John's life will be Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Tim Cottrill officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Military honors will be given by the West Virginia Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post 23 of Point Pleasant.
