Janet Louise Gillispie

November 29, 1944 — November 24, 2015

Our beloved Mother, Janet Louise Gillispie, 70, of Point Pleasant, formerly of Fraziers Bottom, WV, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, November 24, 2015, while at Hubbard Hospice House, South Charleston, WV. She was born November 29, 1944, in Charleston, a daughter of the late Melvin Gillispie and Lilly Marie (Hayes) Gillispie of Hurricane, WV. Janet had worked in housekeeping at Days Inn in Hurricane. She loved to decorate for the holidays and enjoyed her houseplants and making birdhouses. She collected frogs because they represented the scripture Psalms 59:9 F.R.O.G. (Fully Rely On God) as she did every day. She took pride in her children and we take pride in calling her mother. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Ferguson; two granddaughters; and several aunts and uncles. In addition to her mother, she is survived by six children, Angela Harkins (Bill Aronhalt) of Marietta, OH, Jonathan (Charlene) Martin of Parkersburg, Barbara Martin of South Carolina, Donna (Ray) Fulmer of Washington, Don (Joy) Martin of South Carolina and Theresa (Chris) Hutton of Leon; eight grandchildren, Sheena (Matt) Belt, Anthony (Tracie) Martin, Jon Martin, Don (Whitney) Martin, Eugenia Wilcoxen, Justin Wilcoxen, Danielle Daughterty, Scott Martin, and Mary Grace Burks; and six great grandchildren, James Belt, Malaci Martin, Xandra Martin, Jon Martin, Wyatt Martin, and Noah Grantham. Also surviving are three half siblings, Melanie Plants, Crystal King and Scott Gillispie; her longtime companion, Kenneth Hatfield of Fraziers Bottom; two nieces; aunt; uncle; and several cousins. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2015, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Rev. Harold White officiating. At Mother's request burial will follow on the farm of Theresa and Chris Hutton in Gallipolis, OH, "So I can be there for all the birthday parties and family gatherings". The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Friday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the SICU staff at Cabell Huntington Hospital and the staff of Hubbard Hospice House at Thomas Memorial Hospital for the care given to our mother in her last days.
