James Herschel Barker, 76, of Ashton, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at home. He was born August 7, 1939, in Huntington, WV, a son of the late John Hager Barker and Winnie Mae (Holley) Barker White. James was a carpenter and attended House of Praise and Worship in Point Pleasant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David Barker and Tony Barker; and a sister, Ferrell Holley. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Lucille (Edmonds) Barker of Ashton; children, Donna K. (Andy) White of Huntington, Joyce Hicks of Huntington, Patty Sue (Sam) Kinder of Gallipolis Ferry, Ronnie (Nannette) Barker of Lesage, Sharon (Eugene) Plumley of Ashton, and Grace Cornell of Ashton; two sisters, Wanda (David) Glenn, and Judy White; three brothers, Johnnie (Violet) Barker, Harold (Karen) White, and Sherman (Mindy) White; brother-in-law, Charles Holley; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2015, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Marshall Bonecutter officiating. Burial will follow at Pete Meadows Cemetery in Glenwood, WV. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Monday at the funeral home.
