James Freemont Green, 77, of Milton, WV went home to be with his Lord Friday, November 22, 2024, at Pleasant Valley Healthcare Center in Point Pleasant.
He was born February 20, 1947, in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Fred Johnson Green and Bernice Artist (Miller) Green.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Jane (Shank) Green.
Jimmy was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he was a long serving Deacon, Choir member and Adult Class Sunday School Teacher. But first and foremost, Jimmy Green was a man of God. His Christian faith was the foundation of his life. Strong principles and values defined his character. Jimmy's disciplined approach to life, a noble trait, passed straight down through both family lines, brought him success and happiness.
All who knew him understood that here before them was a man of conviction, a man who played by the rules and did not deviate. Here before them was a Christian man who lived frugally but gave generously to his church and related institutions whose founding principles aligned with his.
He was a graduate of Hannan High School, Class of 1965, retired as a bus driver from the Mason County Schools with 30 years of service and was a lifelong farmer.
Jimmy was a man who left an impression on all who knew him. Indeed, he left an impression on those whose paths he barely crossed. Why? Because Jimmy was a man who loved to engage in conversation at every opportunity. He was emphatic, opinionated, and wise. But more importantly, Jimmy was an active listener who knew when to offer advice, when to put his arm around your shoulder in consolation, and certainly, when to joke around. These traits endeared him to all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Mike Hughes of Milton; grandson, Evan Hughes of Milton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Warren Cornell of Dunbar, WV and Betty and Pat Smith of Huntington, WV; brothers and sisters-in-law, Freddie and Tina Green of Fraziers Bottom, WV and Richard and Alesia Green of Hurricane, WV; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Fraziers Bottom, with Pastor Chuck Elkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11-1 p.m. Monday at the church.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Staff of Pleasant Valley Healthcare for their kindness and compassionate care.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, 406 Mount Zion Road, Fraziers Bottom, WV 25082.
