James Dean "J.D." Adkins

James Dean "J.D." Adkins, 54, of Apple Grove, died Friday, March 29, 2024, from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born October 26, 1969, in Portsmouth, OH, a son of the late Jim and Pat Adkins of New Boston, OH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Madeanna Stout; and a niece, Tricia Stout.

J.D. attended the Ashton Baptist Church and was employed at ICL-IP America in Gallipolis Ferry.  He was a graduate of Portsmouth East High School, Class of 1988 and Shawnee State University, Class of 1991.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and repairing anything that was broken.  He loved being with his family and watching his boys play sports.

He leaves behind his wife, Becky; two sons, J.W. and Blake; and a bonus daughter, Jesslyn (Hilljack) Crawford.  He is also survived by his sister, Melissa Prise of New Boston and her children, Stacey (Brad) Davis and Kevin (Brooklyn) Prise all of Ohio; a brother-in-law, Randy Stout; and special niece and nephew, Jayden and Tavyn Davis. Other survivors include his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Margaret Crawford; sisters-in-law, Jeanie (Eric) Sturgeon, Kim (Jeff) Roach and Allie Crawford; as well as several other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and friends that were more like family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Brian May officiating. A private family burial will be held Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Teter-Crawford Family Cemetery in Point Pleasant.  The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Friday at the funeral home.
