Jackie R. Payne

Jackie R. Payne, 78, of Apple Grove, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022, at home. He was born January 10, 1944, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late Dennis Payne and Sibyl Arleen (Hudson) Payne Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Gary D. Payne Sr. and Judy C. Payne. Jackie attended the Glenwood Church of Christ in Glenwood, WV. He was a graduate of Hannan High School Class of 1962, where he played football and retired from M&G Polymers in Apple Grove. Jackie's favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and watching his kids and grandkids play sports. He also loved to travel with his wife to Topsail Beach and the mountains of West Virginia. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing his harvest with his neighbors. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Sue (Long) Payne of Apple Grove; sons and daughter-in-law, Chris and Megan Payne of Point Pleasant and Nathan Payne of Apple Grove; grandchildren, Catherine (Brett) Johnson, Cailey Payne and Cason Payne; great-grandson, Rogue Johnson; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Sharon Payne of Apple Grove. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Ernie Bowser and Paul Drake officiating. Burial will follow in the Barton Chapel Cemetery in Apple Grove. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Wednesday at the funeral home.
