Ister Richard Mowrey Sr.

Ister Richard Mowrey Sr, 81, of Point Pleasant died Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant. He was born May 24, 1927 in Spencer, WV to the late Herman L. Mowrey and Elza Ellen (Cooper) Mowrey. Richard was the owner of Mowrey's Upholstery Shop in Point Pleasant until his retirement in 1986, a World War II veteran serving in the U. S. Navy, member of the VFW Post #4464 of Gallipolis, Ohio, was a lifetime bowler with various leagues at Skyline Lanes in Gallipolis and enjoyed raising beagles. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty B. (Doolittle) Mowrey; grandson, Elijah Lee Mowrey; three brothers, Arnold, Orval, and Arkie Mowrey and three sisters, Flora Carpenter, Janice Mowrey, and Edna Henry. Surviving are his wife, Lyma N. (Glover) Mowrey of Point Pleasant; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Elaine (Kenneth) Ashby of Lexington, NC, and Kay Ellen (Russ) Williamson of Point Pleasant; son and daughter-in-law, Ister Richard (Pamela) Mowrey Jr. of Point Pleasant; stepson, William Schrader of Mt. Olive, WV; sister and brother-in-law, Ollie (Homer) Currance of Colfax, WV; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 23 at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home with Rev. James H. Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant where Military graveside rites will be given by the WV Honor Guard. Visitation will be Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
