Howard Delane Knopp, 81, of Leon, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, OH. He was born May 9, 1938, in Standish, MI and raised on a large farm in Roane County, WV. He graduated from Spencer High School and served proudly in the United States Coast Guard from 1957 to 1967. He worked for Geological Survey and retired from the Goodyear/Shell Plant in Apple Grove after 30 years. He and his wife attended church at the Community Christian Fellowship in Thurman, OH. Howard is now reunited with his parents, Durward K. Knopp and Elizabeth E. (Harpold) Knopp; brother, Durward K. "Butch" Knopp; and a sister, Connie Starcher. He is survived by the love of his life of 60 years, Marie L. (Leo) Knopp; sons and daughters-in-law, Duane A. and Annette Knopp and Thomas D. and Cristina Steele; daughter and son-in-law, Susan A. and Ronald Grady; 10 grandchildren, Matthew A. Knopp, Ryan W. Grady, Miranda L. Herdman, Shakeita Johnson, Lakeisha Buggs, Thomeisha Roach, Thomas Peterson, Timothy Peterson, Tina Steele and Jazmyne Steele; and 23 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2020, at the Community Christian Fellowship Church, 290 Trails End Road, Thurman, OH, with Pastor Dale Geiser officiating. Military honors will be given by the Gallia County Burial Detail. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
