Howard Lee Crawford Jr.

Howard L. "Buddy" Crawford Jr., 67, of Gallipolis Ferry, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV.

He was born January 29, 1957, in Point Pleasant, a son of the late Howard L. Crawford Sr. and Marceia J. (Harris) Crawford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Crawford; sister, Julie R. Glenn; and a special friend, Sidney "Bubby" Jones Jr.

Buddy attended Pleasant View Church at Gallipolis Ferry and was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper.  After 46 years on the river with various companies, he retired from Amherst Madison as a river captain.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shela Ann (Matthews) Crawford of Gallipolis Ferry; sons, Brent (Trisha) Matthews of Asheboro, NC and Zach Crawford of Gallipolis Ferry; grandchildren, Kaylie (Joseph) Miller, Madalyn Singletary, Bryson Matthews and Peirson Crawford; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Karen L. Wall of Wheeling, WV; very special uncle, Bill Crawford; and a special friend, Kelly Bonecutter.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Ted Nance officiating. Burial will follow at the Crawford Cemetery in Gallipolis Ferry.  Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
