Herschel Harold Shank

Herschel Harold Shank, 91, of Milton, WV, died Thursday, July 9, 2015, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV. He was born January 22, 1924, in Apple Grove, WV, a son of the late Walter Russell Shank and Nancy (Bateman) Shank. Herschel was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church in Ashton. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II, and retired from AEP John Amos Plant in Winfield, WV after 32 years service. He graduated from Hannan High School Class of 1943 and was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 9796 of Milton, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Mae (Powell) Shank; and two brothers, Charles "Curly" Shank and Robert Milton Shank. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn J. and James F. Green of Milton; one granddaughter, Amy (Mike) Hughes of Milton; a great-grandson, Evan Hughes of Milton; one brother, Glenn (Nell) Shank of Gallipolis, OH; three sisters, Thelma Sturgeon of Huntington, Nellie Lake of Huntington and Ruth Meadows of Carroll, OH; two sisters-in-law, Faith Ann Shank of Bellefontaine, OH and Evalee Shank of Gallipolis; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be noon Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Chuck Elkins officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom, WV, with military graveside rites given by the West Virginia Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Saturday at the funeral home.
