Hansford E. "Gene" Bowles

Hansford (Gene) Bowles, 93, of Point Pleasant, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Point Pleasant, after a short illness. He was born October 14, 1924, in Buffalo, WV, a son of the late Floyd B. and Launa (Sayre) Bowles. After graduating high school and business college, he became an accountant for Point Towing Company in Kanauga, OH and G. & C. Towing in Point Pleasant until his retirement. He was a Christian and member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Gallipolis Ferry. Gene was an accomplished author having many of his poems and stories published with the Point Pleasant Writers Guild as well as several newspapers. He loved the outdoors and hunting and trapping. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen (Herdman) Bowles; brother, Red Bowles; and a grandson Charlie Blain. He is survived by daughters, Sharon (Parry) Crush of Point Pleasant and Sue (Leonard) Rice of Huntington; a son, Danny Bowles of Point Pleasant; grandson, Shane Blain and friend Ariana of West Palm Beach, FL; two great-granddaughters, Sienna and Milan Blain of West Palm Beach; one brother, John Bowles of Virginia; sisters, Monna G. Rollins of Columbus, Gloria M. Hedrick of Point Pleasant and Judy Bonecutter of Leon; a special friend, Alice Tripp of Mason; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Howard Blain officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Thursday at the funeral home.
