Grace Jeannette Jacquot Somerville, 95, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at her home. Very active in the community, Amazing Grace has been a resident of Mason County since 1949. After graduating from Central Catholic High School, she attended business school. She worked as an office manager for Airway Inc., in Toledo, Ohio and was later transferred to Charleston, WV. There she met her husband William "Bill" Somerville, while waiting for the city bus. Grace was a retired Mason County School Board Employee, former employee of the Mason County Sheriff's Tax Office, Mason County State Road Garage, and member of the Mason County Association of Retired School Employees. She was very active in the Pleasant Valley Hospital Auxiliary. In 1995, she was recognized as the District Volunteer of the Year. She has also served as vice president for the organization. She was the treasurer of the American Cancer Society and was involved in related activities. As one of the founding members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Grace was active in the women's club and served as the church organists. She also was a member of the Mason County Democrat Women's Club and held several different offices over the years. She was honored as Mason County Democrat of the Year and inducted in the WV Voters Hall of Fame. For those who knew Grace, they will attest that her main hobby was shopping. Amazing Grace was always very vivacious and loved to spend time with her friends, family or shopping. She was born January 13, 1914 in Swanton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Jacquot. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William J. "Bill" Somerville; and one sister, Francis Kruse. She is survived by her children, daughters Lois and Maurice Nott of St. Petersburg, Florida, Carol "Suzie" and Howard Lee Miller, of Point Pleasant, and son, William "Pete" and Carla Somerville of Point Pleasant; six grandchildren, Greg Nott of Atlanta, Georgia, Philip and Holly Nott of Youngsville, North Carolina, Cara and Rick Augusto of Newport Richey, Florida, Chris Miller of Orlando, Florida, Cheryl and Shawn Ross of Point Pleasant and Elizabeth Grace Somerville of Point Pleasant; six great-grandchildren, Ethan, David, and Jonathan Nott and Jacob Miller, Caleb Riffle and Hannah Ross. A Liturgy of Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, October 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Point Pleasant with Father Dave Schmitt officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday from 5-8 at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home, and the prayer of the rosary will follow at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2 Player Club Drive, Suite 104, Charleston, WV 25311, or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2222 Jackson Ave., Point Pleasant, WV 25550 in honor of Grace Somerville.
