George Richard Young

Lt. Col. (Ret) George Richard "Dick" Young, 66, of Point Pleasant died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division in Charleston, WV. He was born September 15, 1939 in West Columbia, WV to the late Alburtice and Roberta Marie (Redman) Young. Dick had dedicated 28 years of his life to the West Virginia State Police, rising from the rank of Trooper to Lieutenant Colonel. He retired from the WVSP on July 17, 1992, as the Deputy Superintendent. He was a 1957 graduate of Wahama High School, served eight years in the United State Army Reserves, holds a Masters of Science Degree from Marshall University and is a member of the Marshall University Alumni Association. In 1970 he graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy, and in 1996 was appointed to the West Virginia Lottery Commission. He was a member of the Clifton Masonic Lodge #23 AF & AM of Clifton, WV, West Virginia Chiefs of Police Association, West Virginia Troopers Association, and the West Virginia State Police Retired Members Association. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Albert Young. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Audrey (Goff) Young of Point Pleasant, and his three sons and family; Richard and his wife, Erma, his three children,Josh, Nikki, and Jason, his two step-sons, Jason and Matthew, all of Point Pleasant; Michael and his wife, Kathryn, and their children, Samantha and Jonathon, of Midlothian, Virginia; and Matthew, of Point Pleasant; three great grandchildren; and many more family and friends. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 22, 2006, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home with Trooper I.M. Harmon, Chaplain of the West Virginia State Police officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. Serving as pallbearers will be members of the West Virginia State Police Honor Guard. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 21, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
