George O. Roberts

George O. Roberts, 75, of Gallipolis Ferry passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at his home, after a four year battle with lung cancer. George was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #521, where he worked as a welder for 43 years. He loved to deer hunt and coon hunt, during which time he won many coon hunting trophies. On October 14, 2007 George asked the Lord to forgive him and to remember him when he died. The family takes great comfort in the simple Plan of Salvation and is thankful for God's wonderful love and mercy. He was born August 8, 1932 in Mason County to the late Opal and Vivian (Rulen) Roberts. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann (Smith) Roberts whom he married August 1, 1950; a sister, Bonnie Nutter; an infant brother, Rex Roberts; a great granddaughter, Karley Jo Watson; an infant, "great-grandbaby" Roberts. Surviving are his children, Ricky and (Drema) Roberts, Joey and (Addie) Roberts, Timbo and (Debbie) Roberts all of Gallipolis Ferry; and Tammy Roberts and Sam Queen of Centenary, Ohio; a sister, Emogene Rainey; and brother, James Roberts both of Gallipolis Ferry; grandchildren, Selena and (Jamie) Higginbotham of Point Pleasant; Courtney and (Virgil) Watson of Rutland, Ohio; Melissa and (Chris) Barnett of Point Pleasant; Shad and (Shana) Roberts, and Nathan Roberts and Eric Roberts all of Gallipolis Ferry; great grandchildren, Makinley Higginbotham, Braylon Higginbotham, Ethan Watson, Emily Watson, Bailey Barnett, Delaney Roberts, and Haydn Doss; and a very special dog named Socks. George had many friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins, friends from work, hunting buddies, and neighbors. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2007 at the Lewis Cemetery in Gallipolis Ferry, WV with the Rev. Ray Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home. The family would like to express a special thank you to Pleasant Valley Home Health and Hospice for their extraordinary help in our time of need, nurses; Sally Roach, Susie Knapp, Debbie Mitchell, and Alicia Tucker and social worker, Anna Music.
