Gary Truman Bowen, 71, of Apple Grove, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016, after an extended illness, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Point Pleasant. He was born October 1, 1944, in Mercers Bottom, WV, a son of the late Clyde Wesley Bowen Sr. and Bonnie Mae (Nowlin) Bowen. Gary was a graduate of Hannan High School and a retired welder from Pipefitters Local 521 of Huntington. He enjoyed dirt track racing and WVU football. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Delores Jean Brown; one brother, Clyde Wesley Bowen Jr.; brother-in-law, Hunter Dorsel Brown; and two nephews, Hunter "Butch" Brown and Timmy Brown. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly Dawn and David Neal of Apple Grove and Laila Yvonne and Doug Dye of Ashton; one sister, Norma K. (Dudley) Wears of Apple Grove; a sister-in-law, Janette Bowen of Apple Grove; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Mike and Connie Brown, Toni Brown, Terri and John Watterson, Wesley Bowen, Regina and Steve Deweese, Kathy and Darrell Bruner, Kim and Tiger Wilson, and Shawn Wears; 14 great-nieces and nephews; five great-great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jumbo Bias and Rick Tolliver. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Beale Chapel Church in Apple Grove, with Pastor Ronnie Long officiating. Burial will follow at Beale Cemetery.
