Fleming S. Young Jr.

Fleming S. Young Jr., 105, of Apple Grove, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Abbyshire Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Care of Gallipolis, OH.

He was born October 27, 1918, in Hometown, WV, a son of the late Fleming S. Young and Effie Day (Bradley) Young.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen Wray Young and his wife of 14 years, Lorena Litchfield Young; daughter, Sandra Pyles; sons-in-law, Richard Pyles, Bill Mayes, Gary Whittington and Howard Sharp; three brothers; and three sisters.

Junior served in the United States Army during World War II, trained in Fort Knox, KY and was stationed in Guam and Saipan.  He retired from Martha White Mills in Huntington, WV.  He was a member of Balls Chapel Church and also attended Barton Chapel Church.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Luther and Delores Young of Ashton and Oliver and Debbie Young of Gallipolis Ferry; a daughter, Carol Mayes of Ashton; stepdaughters, Brenda (Darrell Mayes) Whittington and Donna Sharp of Apple Grove; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and step-great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Balls Chapel Church in Ashton, WV, with Pastor Mark Mayes officiating. Burial will follow in the Balls Chapel Cemetery, with military graveside honors given by the West Virginia Army Honor Guard and Stewart-Johnson VFW Post 9926 of Mason, WV.  Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Friday at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
