Emma Jane Kearns, 79, of Point Pleasant, WV, died Saturday, September 12, at home. She was born October 27, 1935, in Huntington, WV, a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Adkins Sr. and Mildred Hazel (Ferguson) Adkins. Emma was a member of the First Church of God in Point Pleasant. She was a graduate of Huntington East High School Class of 1953 and retired from Akzo Nobel in Gallipolis Ferry. She was Past President and member of the Mason County Board of Education and past member of Mason County Democratic Executive Committee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Gene "Babe" Kearns; one sister, Betty Jo (Adkins) Simms; four brothers, Thomas Jefferson Adkins Jr., Norvell P. Adkins, Robert J. Adkins and George W. Adkins; and two brothers-in-law, Bob and Keith Kearns. She is survived by two daughters, Tara L. (Stormy) See of Point Pleasant and Jill A. (Darrin) Martin of Point Pleasant; a son, Gerald Marc (Marilyn) Kearns of Letart; one step grandson James (Allison) See of Barboursville; two step great grandchildren, Koby James and Mya Rose See of Barboursville; sisters-in-law, Louise Kearns of Florida and JoAnn (Bill) Withers of Ashton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Robert Patterson and Rev. Carl Swisher officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday at the funeral home. The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation to caregivers Frances Ramsey, Lisa Stewart and Brenda Harden, and Pleasant Valley Home Health and Hospice Services for their kindness, exceptional care and compassion shown to our mother during her illness.
