Eloise "Ellie" Frances Smith

February 3, 1930 — March 7, 2017

Our beloved Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, Eloise "Ellie" Smith, 87, of Dunbar, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Abbyshire Place in Bidwell, OH, after a long, valiantly fought battle with Lewy Body Dementia. 2 Timothy 4:1-8; Isaiah 40:28-31. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Marguerite Smith; her sister, Pat Grishaber; brother-in-law, Bob Grishaber; her husband, Neal Smith; sister-in-law, Nancy Smith; and a host of other family members. She is survived by her son, David and his wife Sherry; her daughter, Patricia and her husband Bill; her grandson, David Joe and his companion Nikki; her great-grandson, Landon; two step-grandchildren, John and his wife Lindsay and Amanda and her husband Scott; a niece, Christy and her husband Kyle and their children; nephew, Greg and his wife Jennifer and their son. She was born in Roane County on February 3, 1930. In the early 1940's they moved to Dunbar where she graduated in 1948 from Union District High School (later called Dunbar High School). Shortly after graduating she went to work at The Bank of Dunbar and continued to work there for the next 35 years until she was elected City Clerk of Dunbar in 1985 from which she retired in 1993. Mom was a faithful member of Dunbar First Baptist Church for over 60 years during which time she served as a Deaconess, sang in the Chancel choir, directed the Children's choir for several years, and served on many other boards at the church. She was also the Hospice Love Light Tree organizer for the church for several years. Her faith and trust in God was unshakeable. She was a member of the Dunbar Woman's Club for over 25 years, a member of the Dunbar Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, and the Dunbar Rotary Club for several years. Mom loved gospel music (especially The Gaithers), going to church, and reading her King James Bible, but foremost loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and couldn't wait for the day to come when she would take her last breath here on earth and her first breath in Heaven and be reunited with her family who passed on before her. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held at Dunbar First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, with Pastor Jason Quintrell and Rev. Dr. Kyle Key officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date. Many thanks to Denise, Amber, Stacy, Donna, Jimmie, Olivia and many others of Abbyshire Place and a special thanks to Jay for coming in and praying for mom, reading her Bible to her, and singing hymns to her. Extreme thanks and appreciation to Rebecca, Bricey, and Heather of Heartland Hospice for the outstanding care and compassion you gave our mom. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant. Condolences may be expressed to the family and memories may be shared by visiting www.wilcoxenfuneralhome.com.
