Edward Wallis Thomas, 84, of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at home with his family by his side. He was born November 21, 1931, in Newlyn, WV (Fayette County), a son of the late Harry Pentreath Thomas and Mary Ann (Binns) Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Doris Latham, Penny Thomas, Marguarite Taylor, Jean Thomas, Bill Thomas and Kathleen Ragsdale. He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. (Sneed) Thomas of Point Pleasant; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kitti and Jack Kaylor of West Columbia and Jenny and Mark Huffman of Point Pleasant; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Teddy Thomas of Point Pleasant; a sister, Ann Belote of Orlando, FL; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and his beloved black lab Gabe. Mr. Thomas was a 1951 graduate of Collins High School, in Oak Hill, WV, where he was known for his football achievements of the 1951 North/South football team, Marshall University football scholarship, and in 1981 was voted into the Collins High School Hall of Fame. He was an Air Force veteran serving in the Korean War from 1951-1955 and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He attended Morris Harvey College, Marshall University, and attended three years in the pastoral ministry program for deaconship at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Parkersburg, WV. He worked for the US Postal System for a short term, Union Carbide, and AEP Southern Ohio Coal Company. Mr. Thomas was a 10 year member of the Oak Hill Fire Department, a 45 year member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served as Eucharistic minister and headed many out-reach programs until he became ill. Mr. Thomas was also a self-taught artist, who created many wonderful paintings and creations. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Point Pleasant, with Father Dave Schmitt officiating. Interment will follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar, WV, where military honors will be given by the Air Force and DCKMSVC Honor Guards.
